Essential Functions

Develops, facilitates, and or implements simulation activities for the students in the Nursing Program. The position is a 9- month position and is responsible for operationalizing the strategic vision and mission of the College of Nursing and simulation learning laboratories. The Director works closely with faculty, staff, students and external entities. Develops interprofessional relations and simulation and laboratory act ivies involving the university and the community. The Director of the Nursing Simulation Center (NSC) will continue to teach in the Simulation environment and maximize simulation hours as allowed by the Board of Nursing in the State of Texas.

  • Oversees the organization and delivery of the day to day operations and scheduling for the Nursing Simulation Center activities and student learning experiences. Promotes congenial and professional communication with fellow employees, students and community. Monitors available learning resources to ensure the materials are consistent with current nursing standards and evaluates the needs for additional NSC resources.

  • Strategically plan and facilitate simulation utilization, growth and effectiveness.

  • Oversees evaluation process, purchasing and implementation of operating procedures and systems used to support excellence in clinical learning within the nursing simulation center.

  • Consistently report and maintain accurate, complete, and timely records of Skills Lab and Simulation Center usage.

  • Create simulated learning scenarios for courses in the College of Nursing curriculum.

  • Perform instruction and oversight of computerized learning activities and testing.

  • Assist faculty with: scenarios and operation of simulators as needed, evaluate clinical remediation in the Nursing Simulation Center (NSC), notification of students' progress related to remediation, information concerning teaching aids to the appropriate faculty

    Required Qualifications

    1. Masters of Science in Nursing
    2. Unencumbered license to practice nursing in TX or another compact state required (or eligible for licensure)

    Preferred Qualifications

    1. Doctoral Degree
    2. Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification
    3. Experience in baccalaureate nursing education and curriculum development
    4. Background in population and community health
    5. Expertise in primary care, women's health, preventive medicine and patient education

    Schedule

    Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

    Standard Working Conditions

    1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
    2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
    3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
    4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
    5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
    6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation
