Purpose of Position

Assists the Director of Sports Medicine in the operation of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletic Training and its facilities. Associate Director of Sports Medicine's main sport responsibility is as assigned, but also supervises the healthcare of all student-athletes in conjunction with the Director of Sports Medicine and Senior Associate Director of Sports Medicine, and coordinates prevention and treatment of athletically related injuries to student-athletes.

Essential Functions

Assist the Director of Sports Medicine and Senior Associate Director of Sports Medicine in supervising the operations of the Athletic Training room, to include developing necessary procedures and schedules

Responsible for all aspects of healthcare for the student-athletes of assigned sport(s).

Confers with team doctors to ensure proper evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injured student-athletes

Assists Director of Sports Medicine and Senior Associate Director of Sports Medicine in Supervising Associate Athletic Trainer(s) and Assistant Athletic Trainer(s), as well as Student Athletic Trainer(s) in the day to day operation of the Athletic Training Room

Assists Director of Sports Medicine in submitting budget requests for Athletic Training Room operations. Helps coordinate the purchase of all supplies and equipment to ensure efficient and economical methods of operations

Maintains records on student-athletes and ensures the accuracy of files maintained in the University's Athletic Training Room

Attends scheduled team practices and competitions, to include all home and away events for designated athletic events, or assigns a certified assistant to attend all other home athletic events

Travels to designated athletic events on extended trips, or assigns an assistant

Follows the NATA Code of Ethics; remains current on all state and national requirements for licensure/certification renewal

Assists Director of Sports Medicine in developing and implementing short and long range plans, conceptual designs, and capital outlay (budget) requirements and documentation for assigned area(s)

Knowledge of and adherence to NCAA rules and regulations as they apply to student-athletes in this area

Knowledge of and compliance with NCAA rules and regulations including attendance of NCAA Rules Seminars, timely completion of all NCAA forms and requests of information

Employee agrees to abide by the Code of Ethics as set forth by the University of Texas at El Paso and the University of Texas System

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems

Complies with all State and University Policies

Other duties as assigned

Minimum Required Education: Master's Degree

Minimum Required Experience: 3 years of related experience and/or training to the essential duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Occasional travel required.
