Job Description
Position Overview
The Associate Director of Medical Services provides clinical leadership, administrative oversight for medical services while also providing direct clinical care to students under the lead medical provider. Serve as OSHA Compliance Officer. Ensures quality clinical operations and compliance with professional and regulatory standards. The Associate Director of Medical Services collaborates across Health & Wellness and Student Affairs to support holistic student health.
Essential Duties Summary
Essential Functions
- Provide nursing care including evaluation and treatment under standing orders of lead medical provider, and patient/student education. Up to 20-25% clinical time.
- Supervise nursing staff and conduct performance evaluations.
- Oversee clinical service quality and compliance. Monitor practice and quality of medical procedures and clinic operations to ensure compliance with state, federal and professional standards.
- Establish and monitor the scope and practice of health care provided by Health & Wellness in collaboration with Lead Nurse Practitioner (NP).
- Lead and manage clinical staff in providing high-quality health care, education, and outreach programming.
- Serve as a resource for faculty, staff, administrators, parents and students to address health and wellness issues that impact the campus community.
- Manage quality assurance processes and electronic medical records for medical services.
- Coordinate student referrals and consult with campus stakeholders as needed.
- Consult with university staff and faculty and parents about health and medical issues of students with written consent.
- Assist with emergency crisis response planning procedures and College committees.
- OSHA Compliance Officer: Coordinate annual OSHA training for medical staff and clinical assistants regarding Standard Precautions, including blood-borne pathogens, personal protective equipment (PPE), and infectious waste policies and procedures.
- Oversee health immunization compliance for incoming students.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal healthcare regulations, including immunization requirements and infectious disease protocols.
- Oversees public health issues and communication with campus in consultation with Lead NP.
- Work with AVP of Health, Counseling, & Wellness to develop and manage the Health Center budget to align with institutional goals and fiscal responsibility.
Additional Responsibilities
- Manage vendor relationships and clinical contracts. Develop referral network relationships.
- Establish and monitor medical contracts with and services provided by medical supply companies, laboratories and pharmaceutical companies in collaboration with consulting RN.
- Assist with cost analysis to determine clinic pricing for visits, medications and laboratory testing.
- Assist in hiring and onboarding medical staff.
- Monitor functionality and problem solving for electronic health record systems along with medical services admin staff.
- Provide direction to the operations staff in relation to the medical clinic.
- Support outreach and health education initiatives.
- Collaborate with Residence Life, Disability Services, and Athletics to address student health needs proactively.
- Represent medical services across campus.
- Collaborate with Health, Counseling, and Wellness leadership around oversight and management of Student Health Insurance Plan.
- Designated to assume AVP responsibilities in the AVPs absence
- Maintain knowledge of federal, state and institutional policies, including OSHA, HIPAA and FERPA, to uphold confidentiality and data privacy standards.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Physical and Cognitive Requirement
- Ability to provide clinical care in healthcare settings.

- Ability to manage complex clinical and leadership responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualification
- Masters degree preferred or Bachelors degree in nursing or related fields.
- Active New York State Registered Nurse licensure or active New York State Nurse Practitioner Certification with significant clinical experience.
- CPR and BLS certification for healthcare providers.
- College Health or Preparatory experience.
- Experience in primary care and clinic management.
- Strong communication and supervisory skills.
- Commitment to student-centered care.
- Experience with electronic medical record systems.
