Job Summary
This position provides care and treatment to patients on the Inpatient Rehab Unit.
This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
1. Be a key team member with physiatrists, residents, consult physicians, and nursing staff.
2. Assess the physical condition of neurologic patients (stroke, traumatic brain, and spinal cord injured) by performing oral and physical examinations.
3. Work in an interdisciplinary team environment with physicians and other team members (nursing and therapists) by developing daily treatment plans based on patient status.
4. Participate in quality improvement activities.
5. Order and evaluate diagnostic tests, with the assistance of attending physicians, to identify and assess the patient's clinical condition and related health care needs.
6. Initiate and/or recommend therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
7. Complete medical records and accurate documentation of patient care.
8. Work with hospital resources (social workers, discharge planner, etc.) in counseling patients, families, and significant others about the health care continuum options upon discharge from the Rehab Unit.
9. Assisting of on-call physician with coverage of 1-2 weekends per month may be required in the future.

Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Current licensure to practice as a Physician's Assistant from the State of Utah.
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Preferred:
- Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
