Job Description:
Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The Nursing Student Success and Retention Specialist is pivotal in supporting nursing and nurse-aid students on their academic journey. This position focuses on fostering student achievement, collaborating with the Associate Dean of Nursing and faculty, providing personalized coaching and assistance to nursing and nurse aide students as they navigate the challenges of school and life. The specialist will guide students through the nursing program, aiming to cultivate a supportive learning environment that boosts persistence, resilience, retention, completion rates, and success in the NCLEX Next Gen exam.

This is a 12-month, on-site, full-time position requiring travel between two campuses.
General Description of Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement innovative educational experiences (open labs, boot camps, simulations, study sessions) to help students apply theory to clinical practice, ensuring compliance with content standards, regulations, and curriculum expectations.
- Coordinate nursing academic support services to achieve identified student outcomes.
- Develop, coordinate, and revise nursing program success activities.
- Organize and lead orientation and tutoring sessions for student assessments in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Nursing.
- Assist the Associate Dean of Nursing and Chairs of the Outcomes/Resources Committee and Curriculum/Students Committee with data collection and interpretation for reporting and program evaluation, including student and alumni surveys.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of retention and student success efforts, reporting findings to the Outcomes/Resources committee and Associate Dean of Nursing.
- Assist the Associate Dean of Nursing with special projects as assigned.
- Incorporate current nursing program retention initiatives into the nursing program.
- Collaborate with other departments to implement robust bridge programs aimed at increasing for retention.
- Work closely with nursing tutors and other retention staff to provide students with effective learning plans.
- Provide academic coaching to students one-on-one and in groups as needed.
- Assist with boot camps and orientation sessions.
- Develop presentations and in-services on student success, retention, time management, stress management, reading/studying skills, and test-taking skills.
- Develop and manage resources for nursing and CNA students.

Special Assignments:

KSA's/Required Qualifications:
- Active, unencumbered nursing license
- Nursing experience.
- Experience teaching.
- Experience in the assessment of student learning outcomes and remediation strategies.
- Experience coaching, counseling, and advising students and peers.
- Experience preparing students for the NCLEX.
- Demonstrated understanding of working with diverse racial backgrounds people of color or low-income economically disadvantaged individuals.
- Demonstrates effective use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrates effective written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills as demonstrated by state application, diplomas, degrees, transcripts, certifications, cover letter, CVs/Resumes, and interview.
- Effective organizational skills, teamwork, independent judgment, initiative, and confidentiality.
- Demonstrates commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity and support of the strategic goals of Germanna Community College.
- Demonstrate the ability to exemplify the mission, vision, and values of Germanna Community College and the nursing program
