Assistant Teaching Professors in Nursing

Penn State Schuylkill is searching for two Assistant Teaching Professors in Nursing. These will be multi-year appointments (2 years) with option for renewal, 36 weeks, starting Summer 2021, Spring 2022, or as negotiated.

Penn State Schuylkill is searching for two colleagues to join our Health Sciences faculty to launch a BSN program in conjunction with the Penn State College of Nursing (CON). Both will teach medical/surgical and general nursing courses and one will also serve as the simulation coordinator, responsible for logistical and technical coordination and accountability for a new state-of-the-art simulation lab and simulation instruction across the curriculum. Both positions are full-time thirty-six-week appointments with full benefits. The successful candidates will begin teaching in Fall 2021 or spring 2022 with an anticipated start date as early as May 2021.

Responsibilities:

Position 1 (start date summer 2021) will be responsible for teaching medical/surgical courses and general nursing courses and will serve as the simulation coordinator. As the simulation coordinator, primary responsibilities will include logistical and technical coordination and accountability for a state-of-the-art simulation lab and simulation instruction across the curriculum.

Position 2 (start date spring 2022) will be responsible for medical/surgical and general nursing courses.

For both positions, primary responsibilities will include coordination and instruction in health assessment, professional nursing, fundamentals and medical/surgical nursing courses, including classroom and clinical teaching. Simulation and virtual teaching experience are preferred. Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include advising students, participating in committees, and other service and scholarly activities as appropriate. There is an expectation that the faculty member will be involved in research, scholarship and/or quality improvement initiatives that benefit the campus, the college, the university, our students and the community and will also provide service to the campus, discipline and society.

Qualifications:

The candidate must possess a terminal degree; show evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and mastery of medical surgical subject matter; hold a valid nursing license; and hold or be eligible for RN licensure in Pennsylvania. CHSE certification is expected upon hire or within 2-3 years of hire for the simulation coordinator position. CNE certification is highly preferred. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment, engagement with fellow faculty members in ways that contribute to a scholarly community on campus, active leadership in campus life, and engagement in the community through outreach activities that address regional needs are required. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the use of instructional technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.
