The Middle School Talent Search Program provides academic instruction, mentoring, tutorial, and counseling services to students in grades seven and eight enrolled at the Wright Science & Technology Academy and the Browne Middle School (both housed in the Williams Middle School in Chelsea). Under the leadership of the TRiO Director, the Middle School Counselor provides academic, career and educational counseling. The counselor also provides motivational support, academic counseling and acts as an advocate for program participants. The Middle School Counselor is responsible for the effective implementation and achievement of all goals, objectives and standards associated with the Talent Search Program as outlined by the US Department of Education.



The Middle School Counselor will report to the TRiO Director; however, they will work very closely with middle school teachers and counselors, and with the appropriate campus and community agency personnel.



Responsibilities include:



  • Screen middle school students in grades 7 & 8 attending the Wright and Brown Middle School, in order to determine eligibility.
  • Recruit and perform outreach to middle school students, parents and school staff.
  • Collect analyze and maintain student data, including report cards, test scores, and Personal Educational Plans to improve service delivery to students and increase students outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain a file on each eligible participant for use in education and career planning.
  • Recruit and manage a caseload of 100 Middle School students.
  • Facilitate and conduct group activities (i.e. college visits, workshops).
  • Organize and conduct college/career workshops, seminars and other educational activities in person or virtually.
  • Conduct Comprehensive Service Plans (CSP) of program participants.
  • Assist the Program Director in program planning and evaluation, assessing educational needs and developing goals of project participants.
  • Assist in developing program proposals and preparing reports.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of curriculum.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Student Personnel Services, Social Work, Clinical Psychology or related field.
  • Experience working with minority and disadvantaged students.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of TRiO programs helpful but not required.
  • Previous experience, academic advising or teaching experience at the middle school level.


Additional Information:

Hourly rate: $30.03. Not exceeding 18.50 hours per week.
