SALARY AND BENEFITS:


Salary Range: $3,423.00/month to $5,667.00/month. PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary will be between $3,423.00/month to $4,000.00/month.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

In the Nursing Program, all clinical lab courses are taught in local hospitals, clinics and public agencies. The Nursing Skills Lab & Simulation (Sim) Lab experience provides students the opportunity to practice and learn psychomotor skills with manikins, fellow students and instructional equipment.

The Skills Lab Coordinator assists faculty with demonstrations of these skills, student skills practice and evaluation of competence. The coordinator manages the skills laboratory, organizes open laboratory times and is responsible for maintaining and updating the equipment and supplies. The coordinator places orders and maintains inventory of supplies required for instruction and works with the Skills Laboratory team to develop and implement plans, policies and procedures for the skills laboratory.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a 10/12 pay plan position based at the Hayward campus. The incumbent will work 10 months out the year with the salary spread over 12 months.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists faculty with student learning activities in Skills Lab by assisting with demonstrations and evaluation of professional nursing skills. Works with faculty to develop skill protocols for new procedures and as new equipment becomes available. Prepares materials and equipment needed for delivery of skills laboratory teaching and student practice. Creates a learning environment that enhances the student's ability to use clinical judgment and problem solving skills.

Assists faculty in Simulation Lab by setting up scenarios determined by faculty, ordering and maintaining simulation equipment, assisting in developing student learning during simulation, and solving technical problems with equipment and simulators. Advises, assists, and evaluates student performance of nursing skills during simulation and skills labs. Oversees laboratory supplies and schedules; Maintains equipment in working order and finding resources for repair, if needed. Reviews equipment and media catalogs to recommend new purchases for the Skills lab. Orders lab supplies in an efficient, timely and fiscally responsible manner. Networks with ITS Service Desk. Develops schedules with faculty for use of skills lab on quarter-to-quarter and week-to week basis. Promotes a safe environment when skills involve contact with bodily fluids. Establishes, maintains and implements policies for an efficient and safe learning environment. Trains and provides orientation for new nursing student volunteers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledges and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and methods related to performing support services; knowledge of the principles, information, methods and techniques related to discipline to which assigned; knowledge of the materials and supplies related to the curriculum, their characteristics, and uses.

Ability to plan, organize and schedule work; ability to operate and repair technical and scientific equipment; ability to coordinate support service to meet a comprehensive variety of needs; ability to develop off-campus resources related to the discipline for obtaining materials or equipment

and

Experience:
Equivalent to four years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to specialty area to which assigned.

or

Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

or

Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the specialty area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience

PREFERRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Current California Registered Nurse License

Nursing skills and experience with equipment, human patient simulators, and technology used in the nursing area. Knowledge of safety standards and practices used in lab/classroom settings. Knowledge of processes for maintaining and/or repairing lab and simulation equipment. Knowledgeable about safety guidelines for laboratories as they relate to Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) guidelines.

Interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to communicate well in written and splen English, using tact and diplomacy as well as working with diverse student and faculty populations. Organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow through. Experience coordinating lab activities and services, such as open lab. Ability to operate computer hardware and audio-video recording systems, and simulation equipment with the ability to following medical/nursing aspects of scenario and make appropriate adjustments based on participant actions. Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications and electronic health records.
