Lecturer in Nursing

Penn State Shenango invites applications for a Lecturer in the Baccalaureate (RN to BS) Nursing Program, (Fixed-Term Multi-Year appointment with the potential for renewal dependent on performance and enrollment in the program, 36 weeks) to begin August 2018.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will teach four courses (12 credits) per semester, to include introductory and advanced-level nursing courses for the RN/BS Nursing Program. The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Teaching assignments may require the use of hybrid and online delivery modes as well as face-to-face instruction, and teaching day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed. Advise students and provide career guidance. Participation in Campus, University, and community service activities and engaging in activities to stay current in the discipline also are expected.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have earned a doctoral degree or demonstrate significant progress toward completion of a doctoral degree in addition to a Master's degree in nursing and have a current Pennsylvania and Ohio RN licensure or eligible for obtaining licensure in both states prior to start of appointment date. Additional requirements include administrative and teaching experience; evidence of scholarship/staying current in the discipline; demonstrated commitment to a consensus-based, collegial approach to decision making and collaboration within the program, campus and College of Nursing, as well as when working with outside health professionals. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is imperative. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.

CAMPUS INFORMATION: Penn State is a multi-campus public land-grant university whose instructional mission includes undergraduate, graduate, and continuing and distance education informed by scholarship and research. Penn State Shenango is one of more than 20 Penn State campuses state-wide as an integral part of the University. Shenango`s 14 acre-campus is located in downtown Sharon in picturesque Western Pennsylvania near the Ohio border. It is about one hour from Pittsburgh, ninety minutes from Cleveland, and twenty minutes from Youngstown, Ohio. It is a student-centered campus of approximately 500 students; about 60% are adult learners. The coursework for the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors is offered, as well as 6 baccalaureate degrees and 5 associate degrees. Students and faculty at Penn State Shenango have all of the resources of a major research university at their disposal, but in a small college atmosphere. Class sizes are small and the student/faculty ratio is low, so students can receive much individual attention. Our faculty members are committed to providing a high-quality educational experience to their students and are actively engaged in research.
