Job Description:

AI & Workforce Education Intern

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and curious intern to support a project that strengthens Registered Apprenticeship programs in New York State by connecting SUNY college coursework with apprenticeship training requirements.

The intern will use AI tools and research skills to help map college courses to the related classroom instruction needed for apprenticeship programs in high-demand industries.

This role is ideal for a student interested in applied AI, education systems, workforce development, or public-sector innovation.

Location: Remote with the Office of Workforce Development & Upward Mobility at SUNY System Administration
Duration: Mid-May through Mid-August
Hours: 20 hours per week

Responsibilities

Use AI tools to organize and convert apprenticeship training requirement documents into usable formats
Research SUNY college course offerings using public websites and internal lists
Compile and maintain structured course lists (handling confidential information appropriately)
Assist in building a standardized template to compare coursework with apprenticeship training requirements
Use AI tools to pre-populate course crosswalks for multiple campuses
Collaborate with project staff to refine and validate results
Help track campus feedback and updates

Requirements:

Ideal Experience & Interests

Required

Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at a SUNY campus
Strong attention to detail and organization skills
Interest in AI tools, data organization, or process improvement
Comfort working with spreadsheets and conducting online research
Ability to handle sensitive information responsibly

Preferred

Experience with Excel, Google Sheets, or data formatting
Coursework in data science, information science, education, public policy, or related fields
Interest in workforce development, career pathways, or expanding access to skilled trades

Goals & Outcomes

By the end of the internship, the intern will help produce standardized course crosswalks that support SUNY campuses in aligning coursework with Registered Apprenticeship training requirements across New York State.

COMPENSATION FOR THIS POSITION: The compensation for this role is between $16 to $18 an hour. The pay will depend on a variety of factors that may include but are not limited to experience, education, training, and certifications.
